Thank you so much for the link! I have been trying to find a site with that same information. It doesn't look too hard, especially with those pictures showing step by step what to do!
I restrung the legs on three of my dolls that were previously having trouble standing erect. To document how to do it, I took step-by-step photos and Maria of JustMagicDolls was gracious enough to host them on her site as Restringing Your American Girl ~ An Illustrated Guide.
It is pretty simple to do and, if your dolls' legs (or arms) are getting wobbly or have fallen off, you may wish to consider it. In any case, you will know what the folks at the AG Doll Hospital would do.

And what a great article it is! Thanks, Taffy. I also added an article called Hair Care 101 ~ Basic Brushing
If anyone else would like to contribute an article, let me know. Taffy and I would like to make Just Magic a useful repository of doll care information.

I resting dolls at the MCM it is realyl fun.

Great info, Taffy. It amazes me what you come up with! What would you do with a doll with a plastic, not string, tie (my Josefina has this)? I guess if I cut it, that's it, right?
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">That is a nylon tie wrap. You have to cut it and then get a replacement tie wrap for when you are done. Of course, you could use a piece of cord, just like AG used on the older dolls (and the newer ones, too, from what I hear).Originally posted by Lametta:

You thread the tie wrap through the casing, cinch it up and cut off the excess. Most of my non-AG dolls use a tie wrap instead of the cord.

Thanks Taffy! That is so cool and helpful. I always wondered what it looked like inside a doll...
how scary!! now I'm not sure I want to send my girls in for restringing if they have to take them apart. They might end up being a different shape! i have a hard enough time getting their clothes to fit! (we eat too many sweets in this house!)

WAAAAH, Tracy! Stop it! This is getting more horrible all the time!
Thanks for the pages, Taffy and Maria!
Taking the doll?s head off really scares me but it?s nice to see this step-by-step guide.
Maria, I wanted to tell you for ages that I enjoy your site enormously!
Do you own one of the US dogs? They look really neat but I can never really tell from the pics.
